Liposuction is the technique used to remove excess of fat located mainly in breast, abdomen, hips and thighs. Liposuction is not a weight loss technique; It should be used for localized fat accumulations. Therefore, it´s only suitable for people without overweight and whose skin has good elasticity. Liposuction shouldn´t be reported if there is sagging. Excisional techniques will have to be done.
Liposuction has evolved over the years from traditional liposuction (“cold liposuction”) to more sophisticated assisted techniques as ultrasonic liposuction (cannulas emit heat that melts the fat) and Vibroliposuction (the cannulas emit a vibration that liquefies fat) prior to aspiration.
The concept of liposculpture means to mold the silhouette with cannulas. It´s an artistic work like other interventions.
Liposuction is always applied under general anesthesia or local anesthesia and sedation. Minimal incisions are made since the diameter of the cannulae goes from 3 to 4 mm.
Duration is between 1 and 2 hours. Hospitalization after surgery is notnecessary and the post-operative is simple. Light discomfort is suffered and the patient have to wear a girdle for a period of two to four weeks. The result of liposuction is visible after 3-4 weeks from the operation.
